This is a fan site that's run by a fan, for other fans. It's got info, but it's also got its share of opinions and humor. The goal is to fondly remember a childhood cartoon and have some fun!
This site's primary area of concern/coverage is the classic 80s Voltron TV series, and the original Japanese animes that inspired them. Newer series will be mentioned, but not covered in depth here.
Classic Voltron began in 1984 beginning with the "lion" series. This is the most popular version of Voltron that aired. But I've always been a huge fan of Vehicle Voltron and could not create a Voltron site without loading it up with as much information as I could on the series. Back when I first started this site, I hadn't seen VV since the 80s, but first thanks to some very poorly recorded vcr tapes I bought off ebay and then eventually some dvd releases, I've been able to rewatch my beloved VV and refresh my memory!
The premise involved a group of space explorers on a mission to find a new livable planet for the people of Earth. In their search, they run across an alien race called the Drules and many clashes ensue. Little do the earth explorers know, but the Drules desperately need a livable world of their own. It is your classic space opera.
The earth exploration team has three specialized units - land, sea and air teams. But if needed, the fifteen units of these teams can combine into one giant mech, Voltron, to defend them.
The one and only season has 52 episodes and are edits of the 1982 TOEI Japanese anime, Armored Fleet Dairugger XV. They are not straight dubs of this series, as the story line was changed and the violence of that original series heavily edited at times for the American audiences, in essence making it a separate series.
Furthermore, WEP switched things up by also using yet another TOEI anime from 1981 - Beast King GoLion - and editing it into a related series we in America know as Lion Voltron. Originally, these two anime were unrelated series. WEP however tied the series together with story lines and elements that sometimes intersected, and by calling both combined giant mechs "Voltron". WEP also made an animated movie in the 80s featuring both Voltrons working together to defeat the Drules called "Fleet of Doom".
I can't help but give Vehicle Voltron some love, even though he just gets no respect.
Poor Vehicle Voltron - he just can't get no respect.
I hope you enjoy exploring the nostalgia on this site, and take advantage of some fan features available as well.
